Foster Care Training

All our foster carers are reviewed annually: all agencies are required to conduct an annual review as are local authorities. We work to help all our carers grow and develop their skills. You might want to be trained to focus on specialist placements and perhaps gain further qualifications.

  • Paediatric First Aid
  • Children who have been trafficked
  • Sexually harmful behaviour
  • Allegations Management
  • Challenging Behaviour
  • ADHD & ASD
  • Counselling or Motivational Interviewing
  • Safeguarding and Child Protection
  • Safer caring strategies and managing risk
  • Attachment, Loss and Separation
  • De-escalation skills
  • Child Sexual Exploitation
  • Radicalization
  • Internet Safety

We are responsive to suggestions via the social meetings we arrange for carers and other subjects we have covered include Child Protection, Identity and self esteem,Young people and money, Steps to adulthood and working with children who have been abused.

As your skills and capabilities develop, you may wish to take up the opportunity of more advanced training in the area of therapeutic foster care. To give you an idea, courses can cover:

  • Understanding attachment difficulties
  • Brain development in infants
  • Understanding and managing self-harm
  • Responding to sexually harmful behaviour
You may wish to acquire the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce.

This is the recognised professional qualification in fostering. None of these courses are obligatory. The above are simply an indication of the variety of topics that make up the challenging and rewarding world of fostering. We will support you whichever direction you choose to follow.

Testimonials

"24 Seven were soon to take away our reservations and any fear we had of failing. We were nurtured and guided through what should be a very nerve wracking time. Instead, it was to be a time of revisiting our past and looking forward to the future with open minds and realising we made the right choice to foster."
